The Unsung Warrior is a historical action film based on the life of the 17th century Maratha military leader Tanhaj his Marsaleh. Ajay Devgan plays the title role.

The story is set in the era of the Maratha Empire with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as its emperor. Tanhaji Marsaleh was one of his closest aides and a brave warrior. The story revolves around the 1670 Battle of Singhagad, fought between the Marathas and Mughals.


The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb (played by Luke Kenny) plans to conquer all of India, and his plans include capturing the strategic Kondana Fortress in southern India. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (played by Sharad Kelkar) decides to retake Kondana Fortress. He entrusts this task to his trusted general, Tanhaji Marsaleh.

However, the Mughals have appointed loyal warrior Udayvan Rasod (played by Saif Ali Khan) to guard the fortress. The film depicts strategic planning, tactics, and epic one-on-one combat between the Tanhaj and Udaiban.

The film also sheds light on Tanhaj's personal life, his relationship with his wife Savitribai (played by Kajol), and his unwavering loyalty to his king and country.

The film pays tribute to the bravery, strategic acumen and fortitude of Tanhaj Marsaleh who, despite his death in action, ensured the victory of the Maratha army and the recapture of Kondana Fortress. This fortress was later renamed Singhagad (Lion Fortress) in his honor.
